We all know Singapore as the city-state which puts so much focus on making sure that every nook, cranny, and turn is clean and safe. But we also know that it is one of the countries which produces students who excel academically. Their rigorous education instructions means that they are more than ready to go to universities around the world and work in any industry.

For instance, Singapore international schools like the Global Indian International School use a specific framework for their curriculum. Their frameworks require their students to pass globally-certified exams like the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education.

However, the schools find a way to balance it out with special events like sports games and cultural shows. They also organize trips around the country so that the kids can learn their heritage and history beyond what is discussed in class. More importantly, the students themselves have created techniques to make sure the stress is not getting to them as they excel in their studies.

Do not cram. Study notes every day.

Just to minimize cramming before exam night, try studying your notes every day. Look over your notes and make sure you understand what has been discussed in class. Studying every day gives you an opportunity to ask your teachers questions for clarification, to truly memorize and understand the lessons, and to organize your notes. This also means that you can just relax on exam night.

Create your study environment

Always study in a place where it is easy for you to study in. You can do this in your own home by dedicating a corner in your room where all your files are organized in folders or racks on a table. Your family should know that when you are in your corner, they should be little to no disturbance.

Some people cannot study in a home setting. You may choose the library, a cafe, a restaurant, or maybe even a park. Just make sure that the spot you are choosing is conducive for learning.

Be in a study group

Discussing your lessons with other students may help cement it in your mind in the long term. You can start a study group or join one where you can all freely review and bounce off ideas with each other. Explaining how you understand a lesson will give you a chance to be corrected if it is wrong or be able to teach someone who does not have a good grasp of it yet.

Try avoiding too much stress

Getting stressed out is totally normal, but too much of it to the point that you cannot manage it is detrimental to your health.

You have to make sure you have as much as 8 hours and as little as 6 hours of sleep every day. Sleep revitalizes your body and helps heal your body from use the whole day. But more importantly, it energizes your brain so that you can digest data and retain it better. Staying up late to study is useless if your mind and body are tired, so always choose to rest.

Additionally, do not forget to hydrate when you study. Keep a pitcher or thermos of water near you. Prepare snacks if you want. Stress affects our appetite: we either eat a lot or eat too little. Remember to breathe when you feel like what you are studying is overwhelming.

Remember that you can always ask for help when you are feeling the pressure already. What you should do is to plot the important dates on a calendar you always see every day. As soon as project deadlines or exam schedules are announced, plot them in there immediately. This will give you ample time to prepare what you will need to study.
